Here, here. I am in total agreement with Marion on this. People need to pay attention to the sugars that they take in. I think the 'get rid of HFCS' movement is just going to make things harder. Now products say "HFCS Free!" and just have the same amount of regular sugar added to them. Now people will think it is healthier when there has been no change in that area whatsoever.

The real benefit may not be a health benefit but a political economic one by undoing in some small way, some of the stranglehold that the corn lobby has on our food system. Replacing it with a more powerful sugar lobbying isn't that inviting but anything that takes commodity corn down a notch is a-ok in my book.

<i>"Maybe, but they have the same number of calories and the same effects in the body!"</I>

But then why do people consume so much more of a beverage or product that has HFCS than the same beverage or product that does not?

Though the one "sugar" is very similar to other sugar, going through this might just get people paying attention more to what is in their food.
Getting the HFCS banned, though it has the same number of calories as does any carbohydrate might also have people avoiding sugar a bit more.

I just go with no soda. It's an easy way to get rid of junk--empty calories that don't provide us with anything else our body needs.
"No thanks" to "liquid candy".
