Well at least we know who's running the UK gov't now don't we.
As the bloom county cartoon once accurately observed regarding the primary principle of politics: "Money talks."

I think the food industry were not pleased when the campaign to check the labels on cereal boxes was launched by the Agency last year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6458607.stm

"The agency's next round of TV ads, launched on Monday, shows consumers how to check food labels for salt content." The bus campaign specifically highlighted breakfast cereals. I was invited to a "breakfast panel" meeting at the time by a PR company representing HGCA (Homegrown cereals authority) and food industry who felt the campaign was misleading.

I'm still surprised at the pace of change. It's so unfair. The consumer loses out. I'm also intrigued as to where the £830 million figure for lobbying EU MEPs came from...also very concerned about the entry of powerful food companies such as Kelloggs, Kraft et al into India, Brazil et al.

Still not sure what we should do. We spent the past few years developing innovative food and health programmes for NHS commissioners (including Shop Tours and healthier cookery classes) but the restructuring of the NHS means...well, a significant period of time for a new system and processes to appear. I received an e-mail from one commissioner stating that the health improvement initiative will be put on hold for the forseeable future.

Crazy. Health promoting programmes on hold and food industry unregulated. Scary.
