I usually don’t care about the nutritional value of my desserts. I don’t eat them that often, perhaps once a week.

For that cake, though, once a month, if I’m not eating any other desserts all month.

Sigh . . . I used to eat things like that dessert . . . before . . . well, before I flunked my mammograms and entered the world of cancer. Even for a while after that I didn’t really believe the tremendous importance of diet on good health. But I began paying attention and reading and researching. I read WHAT TO EAT, and I read THE CHINA STUDY, and I read YOUR LIFE IS IN YOUR HANDS. I read PREVENT AND REVERSE HEART DISEASE and ANTI CANCER and much more. I became vegan. Now my doctor beams with pleasure and says, “Excellent!” each year about my blood testing results. She does continue urging me to exercise more.

Today I would not eat a crumb of that beautiful dessert creation if someone offered me a slice of it. I’d much rather enjoy a simple fresh orange or apple or bowl of berries. Really!
