King Corn (the Movie)

I’ve just been asked if I’ve seen King Corn. Indeed I have and highly recommend it. It’s great fun. Two guys buy an acre of land, plant corn on it (a scene well worth the price of admission), watch it grow, harvest it, and film the process. I adored the scene that shows how they make their very own high fructose corn syrup, the planting scene of course, and the very last one (which I won’t spoil). You can read about it on the King Corn website. It’s going into distribution. Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

Hello,

I just read your post about King Corn and wanted to pass on the news that the film is due to be released in New York City on October 12th, just around the corner from NYU at the Cinema Village on E12th Street. The cinema is playing a trailer for the film now, but you can view the new trailer at http://www.movieweb.com/video/V07I67afjxzEIN too.

Enjoy!

Hi Marion:

I own King Corn and it’s the best gift I’ve received in a while! It so happens that I’m taking a critical thinking class and the topic is food. We are reading Omnivore’s Dilemma which talks about the same things as King Corn. This documentary is very important and I think everyone should have a chance to view it! I don’t want to give away any details about the film. All I can say is just watch it!

*Side Note* My professor mentioned you today with regard to your activism around food. We had to read the introduction to “The Food Industry and Eat More” for class. The work you do is so important! Thank you for “stirring the pot”!!

last summer i started a reading program about food and food production (including “Food Politics”). i was at borders browsing the dvdv’s when i saw King Corn…it meshed perfectly with wendell berry, michael polan, paul roberts, richard manning, and albert howard…if everyone who eats needs to read your book, they need to see this film too.
