More on health claims: coca-cola

While we are on the subject of health claims, can those be the reasons why Coca-Cola is off to China to look for medicinals that can be added to its drinks? The entire point of putting “healthy” ingredients into foods is to be able to make health claims for them. These “functional foods,” as I keep saying, are not really about health. They are about marketing.

Yup! I view the “whole grain” claim on cereal the same way. I overheard a mom asking if it had whole grain to a kid begging for Trix cereal. Caving in (not sure if it claimed whole grain or not), she said, “I’d rather you have this than cookies”. Yeesh!

Argh!!

Adding specialty ingredients to junk foods and soft drinks will not make them real food!

And couldn’t the mom Anna overheard come up with a better solution to cookies than Trix??
